Alumni Profile: Anita Farzan '07
Year Graduated from UCLA:
2007
Current Occupation/Field of Work:
I am an entertainment lawyer. I work in-house at an independent film finance/production company. We finance and produce movies, distribute them to international buyers, and I do allllll the legal work. I love what I do and I'm so happy to be doing it!
Work Experience:

After graduating from UCLA, I took a year off to study for the LSAT and apply to law school. I attended Southwesten Law School thereafter, and obtained an internship at IM Global - a leading production company based in Los Angeles. I interned there, then got hired on for a part time position, and stayed after I took the bar and passed. Now I work for another very similar company called Aldamisa International. We have produced a couple hits - Machete Kills and Sin City 2 which should be coming out in the summer. I'm very happy here.

Why did you choose Comm Studies as your major?

I have always had a passion for the media and arts, especially the business aspect of it so Comm Studies was the perfect fit.

Favorite UCLA memory and/or professor:

Professor VonBlum and Professor Steve Peterson. I think I might have taken all their classes they offered. I admired VonBlum's passion for what he stood up for and he really opened my mind. I also really liked Professor Peterson because he had a lot of connections in the industry and knew a lot about the ins and outs of what goes on behind the scenes. To this day, some of the things he taught us about reality shows, I still remember and implement a lot I learned!

How has Comm Studies empowered you in your professional and personal life?

There was a lot I learned through my Comm Studies classes that I also learned in law school. I remember taking one class about the First Amendment and LOVED it, and that was actually what inspired me to go to law school. I think about 90% of what I learned in that class overlapped with my Constitutional Law in law school so it was very helpful.

What was the most valuable or applicable lesson you learned from a Comm Studies class?

Not to believe everything you see in the media....

What advice would you give to a current Comm Studies student?

Take as many diverse classes as you can and try all the professors as they are all AMAZING and so inspiring. Also, become friends with Jane, she is AWESOME!
